3. - Movies for the Rainy Season

Once again, the rainy season has begun. July kicked off the rainy season here in the Philippines with 2 consecutive typhoons last week. Classes were suspended last Monday and last Wednesday up until the previous Friday. I'd love to say that I took advantage of the cancellation of classes by studying for my midterms, but then I wouldn't be completely honest with you. It's just that the rain and cold weather relaxes my mood. Admittedly, I laze around when it's raining because I don't feel motivated. I end up watching movies while wrapped in a warm blanket. To become somewhat productive, I've decided to make a list of movies to watch for the rainy season.

1. The Impossible (2012)

The Impossible is a gut-wrenching drama based on a true story. It is adapted from the Belon family's real experiences and hardships during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. This film would hopefully bring you closer to your family as you realize their importance. The film stars award winners, Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, and the recently cast Spiderman, Tom Holland.

2. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

10 Things I Hate About You is one of my favorite films from the 90's. This film was a major stepping-stone for it's lead stars: Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It is classified as an American teen romantic comedy-drama film. You would enjoy its own modern take of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew resulting to Julia Stile's character writing a poem called 10 Things I Hate About You.

3. Mean Girls (2004)

Mean Girls is an American teen comedy starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, and Amanda Seyfried. I consider this the ultimate teen comedy. The film follows Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as she attends public school for the first time. She associates herself with the school's "mean girls" and we watch as all hell breaks loose while Cady tries to discover her true friends and what it means to be a friend.

4. 3 Idiots (2009)

3 Idiots is an Indian coming of age comedy-drama. Throughout the film you witness the growth of 3 friends: Ranchodas "Rancho" Shamaldas, Farhan Qureshi, and Raju Rastogi. Their crazy antics would leave you laughing so hard or crying your eyes out. The film deals with the pressure of college and choosing a career, the importance of family and education, and simply living life to the fullest as the best version of one's self.

5. Delivery Man (2013)

Delivery Man is an American comedy-drama directed by Ken Scott and stars Vince Vaughn. It is a remake of the French-Canadian film Starbuck from 2011.
The film revolves around David Wozniac (Vaughn) a delivery man for their family business who is both an expecting Father and owes money from thugs. During his younger years, he donated 693 times to a sperm bank and fathered 533 children. David then stalks his children and performs random acts of kindness.
